China is set to push forward the construction of "green schools" across the country. Vice Director of the National Environmental Protection Agency Pan Yue said at an international seminar that environmental education should be stepped up to cope with increasing environmental problems.

As the world's largest developing country, China faces the equally large challenge of environmental degradation and industrial pollution. The "Green School" project, put forward by the National Environmental Protection Agency, is aimed at improving students' awareness of planting trees and maintaining an ecological balance. So far, environmental education has been included in school syllabuses across the nation. Altogether 284 schools have been marked for focusing on environmental issues. The country is planning to put environmental education as a priority within the education system.
