Another Italian bringing his vision to the world is Academy Award-winning actor Roberto Benigni. His latest comedy -- "The Tiger and the Snow" -- just screened out-of-competition at the Berlin Film Festival.
Begnini focuses on war-torn Iraq with "The Tiger and the Snow". He wrote, directed and starred-in the film.
Roberto Benigni, Director 鈥淭he Tiger& The Snow鈥 said: "How can you forget that there is the Iraqi war, especially two, three years ago when I was writing the movie, the Iraqi war was there, in our TV, in our dreams, in our nightmares. So it was impossible is that our set, this is a fable, not with castles, and a princes and woods and forests. Our set was the war, and so we had to be courageous, and to be brave, to look in the face of the war."
Benigni plays a poet named Attilio, whose attempts to win the heart of the beautiful Vittoria in Rome go unrewarded. Vittoria is played by Benigni's real-life wife Nicoletta Braschi.
Working on a biography of a famous Iraqi poet, Vittoria follows her subject to Baghdad... where she is injured in one of the first American-British bombing raids.
Attilio moves heaven and earth to travel to Iraq. He finds Vittoria in a hospital stocked only with the most basic equipment and medicines.
Attilo scours the city for a pharmacy -- until he falls into the hands of Americans.
Benigni said the film's message is of the power of love.
